Warranty Policy

At Outboard Yards, we take pride in the quality and reliability of the outboard motors and parts we sell. Each new product is backed by a manufacturer's warranty, so your investment is protected and your time on the water stays worry-free. This Warranty Policy outlines the terms, coverage, and procedures for warranty service.

1. Warranty Coverage

All new outboard motors and products sold by Outboard Yards are covered under a limited manufacturer's warranty. Coverage periods and terms are set by the manufacturer — Yamaha, Mercury, Suzuki, Honda, and Tohatsu each publish their own — and vary by model and by whether the motor is used recreationally or commercially. The warranty statement supplied with your motor governs in all cases.

Manufacturer warranties cover repair or replacement of components found defective in materials or workmanship, when the motor is used under normal operating conditions and maintained according to the manufacturer's recommendations.

2. Used and Pre-Owned Motors

Pre-owned outboard motors are sold with any remaining balance of the original manufacturer's warranty, where that warranty is still in effect and transferable. Where no manufacturer coverage remains, used motors are sold as-is unless a separate written warranty is provided at the time of sale. We will tell you the warranty status of any used motor before you buy it — just ask.

3. What the Warranty Does Not Cover

Manufacturer warranties generally do not cover:

  • Damage caused by improper installation, misuse, neglect, or lack of maintenance
  • Modifications or alterations not authorized by the manufacturer
  • Normal wear and tear, or cosmetic damage
  • Damage resulting from accidents or environmental conditions such as corrosion or water intrusion
  • Labor costs or service charges for removal or reinstallation, unless explicitly covered by the manufacturer
  • Motors or parts used for racing, rental, or commercial purposes beyond their rated capacity

Damage that occurs in transit is not a warranty matter. Report shipping damage within 48 hours of delivery under our Return and Refund Policy instead.

4. Warranty Claims

If you believe your product is eligible for warranty service, please follow these steps:

  1. Contact our support team at support@outboardyards.com with your order number, proof of purchase, and a detailed description of the issue.
  2. Provide clear photos or video showing the defect or problem.
  3. Our team will review your claim and, if approved, provide instructions for repair, replacement, or return under the manufacturer's guidelines.

Warranty claims must be made within the coverage period. Unauthorized returns, or repairs made without approval, may void the warranty.

5. Shipping for Warranty Repairs

Customers are responsible for shipping the product to the authorized service center unless the manufacturer specifies otherwise. If the claim is approved and the defect confirmed, the repaired or replacement item is shipped back to you at no additional cost. See our Shipping and Delivery information for details.

6. Transferability

Manufacturer warranties are provided to the original purchaser only and are not transferable unless the manufacturer specifies otherwise.

7. Limitation of Liability

Outboard Yards and its suppliers are not liable for any incidental, indirect, or consequential damages arising from the use of, or inability to use, a product, even if advised of the possibility of such damages. Warranty coverage is limited to repair or replacement of defective parts as outlined above, and is further subject to our Terms and Conditions.
